Clean and healthy energy in Communes: Niepołomice, Wieliczka, Skawina and Miechów

The areas of Niepołomice are very attractive in terms of nature. The picturesque Wisła Valley, the remains of the old forest (where Polish kings and dukes used to go hunting centuries ago) is today the place for active relaxation of the inhabitants of Kraków and its areas. Many of them are willing to come to the Niepołomice Forest to take a break from the city and bathe their faces in the warm sunshine.

For several years, the sun over Niepołomice has been warming not only walkers. At the beginning of 2012, a project was launched to install solar panels on private homes and public utility buildings. Niepołomice (along with three nearby gminas) has invested in improving the quality of life of the inhabitants and in care of the environment, by promoting environment-friendly sources of energy. Solar panels, installed as part of project, are the highest-class devices complying with the European standards of quality and performance and having appropriate certificates. The special installation provides the inhabitants with a possibility of heating water for daily purposes, without the need to light a fire in the stove. Owners of solar cells may therefore hope on more savings (they will burn less coal) and all local inhabitants may hope on the improved air quality (less dust and hazardous substances get into the environment). As part of the project, heat pumps and photovoltaic systems will also be installed.

What is important, the inhabitants who want to take advantage of the offer did not have to modify their installations neither replace existing stoves – the installation was connected to the functioning central heating system. Each solar cell was installed by a qualified company and before it was put into operation, it had passed the appropriate tests and its new owners had been trained. Apart from covering 60% of the purchase amount and installation of the solar panels, the individual gminas and Swiss Fund will also co-finance the cost of further inspections. The effects of the project will be seen long after its completion – each installation has been given the 10 years warranty.
