It is rail's turn!: Support for the railway section Malbork - Grudziądz
Many inhabitants of the Pomorskie Voivodeship certainly dream of comfortable and punctual railways, by which they could commute to work quickly and safely. Unfortunately, more and more local rail lines are threatened by liquidation and the quality of travels is not always good. Thus, the self-government of the Pomorskie Voivodeship made a decision to support one of such lines (No 207, Malbork-Grudziądz) with a grant acquired from the Swiss Fund.
Within the framework of the project, the self-government will purchase 4 modern railbuses, which will run along this route. Each of them is equipped with a combustion engine, which meets all required standards (low harmfulness to the environment and favourable combustion parameters). Any of them may also accommodate up to 140 passengers (there are so many seats in it), guaranteeing them much greater comfort of travelling than the older carriages. The comfort is increased even more by the air conditioned interior and a special system thanks to which the unevenness of tracks is less experienced by passengers. Travels by such train are much shorter – it may speed up to as many as 120 km/h, thanks to which it reaches its destination faster. Therefore, passengers may hope on shorter (and less frequent) delays as well as significant improvements in the comfort of travelling.
The railbuses are praised not only by passengers but also by drivers. The modern control system, cruise control (allowing to maintain a constant speed) and the panoramic window makes driving this type of the train pure pleasure. Each railbus is equipped with two cabins, so it does not require complicated manoeuvres of doing u-turns or recoupling the engine. The cost-effective railbuses will be put into operation probably as early as in 2015.
As a result of cooperation with the Polish State Railways, the infrastructure is also developed. Along the route, we can admire the restored railway station in Malbork, other stations are renovated on an ongoing basis.
